About Restylane Treatment
Restylane is a long-lasting and crystal-clear gel for filling out lips, facial wrinkles and facial folds. Thanks to Q-Med’s stabilization process the hyaluronic acid in Restylane is almost identical to that naturally found in the body and only very slightly modified (0.5 - 1%). Other hyaluronic acid based, injectable implants are often modified by about 20%. Restylane is therefore completely biologically degradable - the body’s metabolism of hyaluronic acid corresponds to 200 syringes of Restylane per day. The product is also naturally integrated into the tissue, thus allowing important nutritive agents to pass freely through the implant and cells to pass between fragments of the gel.
Details: Restylane smoothes wrinkles and enhances lips instantly If you would like to get rid of wrinkles and folds or if you want to improve the image of your lips, there is a new answer to your needs. Restylane is an innovation based on non-animal hyaluronic acid, manufactured by a unique method in the Q-Med Laboratories in Sweden. The treatment is performed by injecting Restylane into the skin or lip, and because no pretest is needed it takes less than 30 minutes. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body and therefore dissolves naturally with time.
Procedure: Restylane is injected into the dermis and provides volume where the concentration of the body’s own hyaluronic acid has decreased. One treatment session takes about 30 minutes. The results can be seen immediately and no scars or other marks are left on the face. Even though the treated area can swell up somewhat and be red for up to one day afterwards, it is quite possible to meet other people and work as normal. The patented stabilization method means that Restylane has a longer-lasting effect than competing preparations.
Length: The treatment takes about 30 minutes and the result is
prompt.
Anesthesia: When treating wrinkles, pain relief is usually not
needed but can be easily achieved.
In/Outpatient: Inpatient procedure
Side-Effects / Risks: Reactions are very uncommon, but about 1 in 2000 persons have experienced transient swelling, redness and tenderness at or near the treatment site(s) up to several weeks after treatment. For further details concerning your specific treatment, please consult the doctor.
Recovery: Immediately after the treatment the treated area can be slightly swollen and red. This is a normal result of the injection, and it generally goes away in a day or two.
Results: How long the effect of Restylane treatment lasts is very individual. It depends on many factors, such as the structure of the skin, lifestyle and age as well as on the degree of perfection demanded by the individual. However, we know that for the majority of the patients treated about 50-80 % of the effect remains after 6 months. Most people choose to have a touchup done within a year of the original treatment. Clinical studies show that Restylane can offer a high degree of patient satisfaction up to one year after treatment.
The great thing about Restylane is that you can replenish your natural beauty whenever you feel the need. A touchup can be performed any time you like after the previous treatment.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q. WHAT IS RESTYLANE?
A. It is a gel that is injected under the skin in order to add volume and lift up the lips, wrinkles and folds. Restylane consists of hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance already present in the skin. Once in the skin, Restylane works together with the body´s own hyaluronic acid and join forces to create volume.
Q. WHAT IS HYALURONIC ACID?
A. Some of the functions of hyaluronic acid in the body are; creating volume to the skin, giving the eye its shape and lubricate joints.
Q. HOW IS RESTYLANE PRODUCED?
A. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is, in contrast to other similar substances, not produced from animals. This means no risk for adverse events.
Q. WHICH AREAS CAN BE TREATED?
A. The most common areas are the glabellar lines (between the eyebrows), the nasolabial folds (from the root of the nose to the angle of the mouth) and the lips but also other sites can be treated. Very superficial or very deep wrinkles may be difficult to correct. Please consult your physician for a judgment.
Q. WHICH RESULT CAN BE OBTAINED FROM A LIP-TREATMENT?
A. The vermilion border can be accentuated and the lips can be given more volume.
Q. WHAT IS TREATMENT WITH RESTYLANE LIKE?
A. A Restylane treatment is a very easy and quick process. Since no pre-testing is needed, the treatment can be made immediately and it takes about 30 minutes. The result is instant. Restylane is injected with a very thin needle under the skin.
Q. DO THE INJECTIONS HURT?
A. It is very individually depending on how pain sensitive you are. The injections may prick a little but normally, no anesthesia is needed for treatment of wrinkles and folds. Most people report that the injections are relatively painless. A lip treatment can be quite uncomfortable and therefore, a nerve block is normally made.
Q. CAN THE MATERIAL BE REMOVED?
A. No, but since Restylane is a natural material it dissolves with time. If you feel insecure about the wanted result, it is possible to make the treatment at different occasions.
Q. IS IT DANGEROUS?
A. Restylane is a safe product. Since hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the body, the skin does not react to the material. With over 100 000 people treated today, only a very small number of reactions have been reported. These reactions may consist of prolonged but temporary redness, swelling, itching or tenderness. Most have lasted for a couple of weeks.
Q. HOW WILL MY SKIN LOOK AFTER THE TREATMENT?
A. Immediately after the treatment, there may be a slight redness, swelling, tenderness or itching sensation at the treated area. This is only normal cause of the injection and the inconvenience is temporary, it generally goes away in a day or two. After a lip treatment, the lips may get swollen and look somewhat uneven. This can persist for a couple of days (up to a week). If the inconvenience continues, please contact your physician.
Q. HOW LONG IS THE EFFECT?
A. Restylane eventually totally disappears out of the body. How long the effect of a Restylane treatment lasts is very individual. It depends on many factors such as the structure of the skin, lifestyle and age as well as on the degree of perfection demanded by the individual. For the majority of the patients after a wrinkle treatment about 50-80 % of the effect remains after 6 months and most people choose to have a touchup treatment done within a year of the original treatment. For lip augmentation, a new treatment is needed after about 6 months.
Q. HOW WILL MY SKIN LOOK WITHOUT "TOUCHUP" TREATMENTS?
A. The correction will gradually disappear until your skin looks like it did before the treatment. Touchup injections will help you maintain your correction.

Treatment Areas
Let’s face it: everyone ages. It’s not that we want to look 18 again, but we all want to look our best. Restylane is a nonsurgical solution that adds volume to the facial tissue. The effect of adding volume could benefit many of your facial features in the following ways:
Eye Area
Your eyes often show the first signs of aging. Filling lost volume around your eyes can help address the sunken look or dark circles you may have around the eyes, which may make you look tired. You can also add volume and plumpness to sagging eyebrows.
Cheeks
Full cheeks and well-defined facial contours are a chatacteristic of a youthful face. But your face may sink and sag as you age, giving cheeks a flattened or sunken appearance. Volume loss may also create "smile" lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). Adding volume to the cheeks can reduce nasolabial folds and restore your skin contour to help attain a more youthful appearance.
Lips
Lips may become less plump with age, shrinking and losing form and proportion. Lines may appear along their edges, and the pleasing shape we call "Cupid’s bow" fades. Restylane helps enhance the border and definition, as well as fullness and pouting of the lips.
Chin and Jaw
Lost volume in the chin and jaw area may lead to sagging and less support for skin under the jaw. A smoother jawline can be achieved by adding volume to the chin area.
